ROCKY HILL, CT (WFSB) - The U.S. Mint produced its last penny on Wednesday, and that prompted stores across the country to change their payment policies.
While the coins will still be accepted for payments, they’ll be more difficult to come by.
The Big Y World Class Market in Rocky Hill posted a sign on its front door that asked customers to have exact change.
McDonald’s has been rounding cash purchases up or down when customers don’t have exact change.
“Yesterday at McDonald’s I saw something that said they’re phasing out. So it said you either have to round up or pay by card,” said Marianne Natale of Rocky Hill.
