MALONE, N.Y. (WCAX) - The Bare Hill Correctional facility in Malone, New York, is slated to close, according to the New York Department of Corrections.
The announcement comes after state officials had been looking to close up to three prisons in response to staffing shortages and a continued drop in inmate populations in the state.
A review of operations at Bare Hill included a review of staffing levels, availability of open beds, infrastructure, and security levels.
Bare Hill will now close on March 11. Officials say none of the 293 staff will be laid off and that they will be offered positions at other correctional facilities.
