HILLSBORO, Oregon — The family of a 12-year-old Hillsboro boy killed while riding his bike last year has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city of Hillsboro, Washington County, and two nearby businesses, alleging unsafe conditions at a busy intersection contributed to his death.
According to court documents, the family of Joseph Brausen claims negligence on the part of the city, county, and the Starbucks and Walgreens stores located along Southeast Gumleaf Lane.
On the afternoon of Feb. 10, 2024, Joseph left his home on his bike to play basketball. He was riding on the sidewalk along Southeast 10th Avenue when he was struck and killed by a driver turning right onto Southeast Gumleaf Lane.
