RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- The driver who was reportedly shot in the head on US-64 last week died from his injuries, the Wake County Sheriff's Office said.

The victim was identified as Derick Godwin, 55.

Authorities have identified the suspected shooter and confirmed there is no ongoing search related to the investigation. Their identity has not been released yet.

On Thursday morning, Deputies were called to US-64 westbound near Lizard Lick Road and found Godwin with a gunshot wound, WCSO says. He was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

US-64 was closed for several hours as authorities investigated.
