Newly released details from the Marshall County Sheriff's Office link the officer involved-shooting to an child sex predator operation.

In a press release sent out by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, they identify the suspect killed as 27-year-old Andrew Smiley, of Muncie, Indiana.

This sting was conducted by the Marshall County Sheriff's Office, Guntersville Police Department, FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, and the District Attorney's Office. The operation happened on the 500 block of Warrenton Shores Rd. in Guntersville. Investigators say Smiley attempted to flee and pulled out a weapon before being shot and killed by law enforcement.

Two officers reportedly suffered minor injuries. ALEA is continuing to investigate and WAAY 31 will be working to get more information.
