A Sheffield man suspected of drug trafficking was booked into jail Thursday on a $1.5 million bond.

According to the Colbert County Sheriff’s Office, about 1 p.m. Thursday, a deputy conducted a traffic stop for improper lane usage in the area of Highway 157 at Frank Lane.

As the deputy approached the vehicle, he observed three occupants and detected what was believed to be the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The deputy requested agents with the Colbert County Drug Task Force at the scene.

The sheriff’s office says, after removing the occupants from the vehicle and conducting a search, agents found several clear plastic bags containing a total of 1.5 ounces of fentanyl and 1.8 ounces of methamphetamine.
