Passerby finds man fatally shot outside car on southwest Birmingham dead end street

A man was found fatally shot outside a vehicle on a southwest Birmingham dead end street.

A passerby made the discovery about 2 p.m. Sunday in the 1700 block of Maple Avenue.

West Precinct officers dispatched to a report of a person down arrived to find the victim unresponsive in the road. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced him dead on the scene.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald said there are a lot of unknowns at this stage in the investigation.

“We can point out this area is a heavily populated residential area, however the street the victim was found on is a dead end,” he said. “So, we’re going to depend heavily on anyone in the neighborhood that may have seen anything, heard anything.”

Fitzgerald said the shots were possibly fired sometime between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.
