A police sergeant was dismissed after he was found to have placed his hands around a woman's throat and made an extremely inappropriate sexual remark following a day of drinking in Swansea on St Patrick's Day.
South Wales Police sergeant Richard Jones denied the allegations, but a misconduct hearing upheld the claims and determined that Jones' behaviour constituted gross misconduct . The hearing was informed that Jones had been drinking with several other officers in Swansea for about five hours when the incident occurred, causing substantial "psychological harm" to the woman involved.
