A police sergeant placed his hands around a woman's throat and made a grossly inappropriate sexual remark following a day of drinking. South Wales Police sergeant Richard Jones denied the allegations, however a misconduct hearing upheld the claims and concluded that Jones' actions constituted gross misconduct.

The hearing was informed that Jones had been out in Swansea for St Patrick's Day, consuming alcohol with several other officers for around five hours when the incident in question took place, causing significant "psychological harm" to the woman involved .
