A dad turned detective and tracked down his attacker after being dragged down the street when he had his van robbed.

Vincent Gavin supplied police with the name of his robber after taking to the streets to track him down. Andrew McEwan has been locked up after Mr Gavin was able to hand CCTV footage of the shocking ordeal to officers.

Mr Gavin was in his Citroen Berlingo van in Bolton , when he stopped to check his brakes and set up his sat nav. He had left the keys in the ignition and the engine running, as he walked round to the back of the van.

Opportunistic thief McEwan, 38, took advantage of the situation, getting in the front of the van. As he was about to drive away, Mr Gavin grabbed hold of McEwan in a bid to stop him.

“Get away from me or I’ll f****** slash you,”
