JANESVILLE, Wis. -- A goose in Rock County contracted bird flu, Rock County Public Health (RCPH) said Monday.
RCPH said it was notified of the positive test by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Friday. The goose had been in contact with a resident of the county.
The resident was directed to watch for any symptoms and follow safety protocols. As of Monday, RCPH said the resident had not reported any relevant symptoms and further testing was not needed.
RCPH said there were no reported cases of bird flu in humans in the county as of Monday, and the current public health risk is low. This marks the first confirmed case of bird flu in the county since 2022, when a chicken contracted the virus.
