LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The Ingham County Sheriff’s Office found a way to give back to the community this holiday season by participating in their annual “Turkeys Not Tickets” initiative.

“We go out and stop drivers who are violating the... motor vehicle code,” said Ingham County Sheriff’s Office Deputy William Belanger. “However, instead of writing them citations, we provide them with a turkey instead.”

Ingham County’s former Sheriff Gene Wigglesworth donates turkeys every year to be distributed.

The goal is to give back to the community while creating positive interactions between law enforcement and residents. Belanger said the program provides an escape from the typical duties of police work.
