GREENVILLE, S.C. —

South Carolina's oldest mill village is set to undergo a transformation: from derelict eyesore into destination.

Years of wear and tear have left little to the eye at Conestee Mill, a large textile site located along the Reedy River. Since its closure in 1971, the mill has sat untouched and covered in graffiti, shattered and boarded windows and private fence lines.

The city of Greenville has proposed an opportunity to redevelop parts of the 8.75-acre property into an array of business and residential spaces. The plans include developing multiple mill buildings, ranging over 8,000 square feet in commercial space and several hundred new housing units.
