A serious crash has closed a busy route in the North East as police, fire and ambulance crews have all been dispatched to the scene.

The A19 is closed in both directions between the A1018/B1404 near Seaham and the A690 near New Herrington due to the crash late on Monday night.

The incident happened around 11.30pm on Monday, November 24 and Durham Police, the ambulance service and fire and rescue along with National Highways Traffic Officers were in attendance.

National Highways report that the full closure is expected to be in place for several hours as collision investigation work will be taking place. Once complete recovery and clear-up work will take place, Chronicle Live reports .
