NEW ORLEANS — A woman was arrested on suspicion of elder abuse after police said she was operating an unlicensed group home in New Orleans where five adult residents were living in poor conditions.
Police went to the home in the 3900 block of Sullen Place for a requested wellness check. Three of the residents were taken to hospital for further medical evaluation and treatment. One victim was moved to a separate medical facility, and another had already been transferred to a local hospital.
Police said the home was being run illegally and that the woman, identified as 65-year-old Nona Burton, did not have the required license to operate such a facility. She was arrested on five counts of abuse and neglect of adults.
