CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Socktober at UVA Health University Medical Center brought in 42,311 pairs of socks for those without a home. It almost triples the amount donated last year and will set a new record for any Morrison Healthcare facility, making giving back for the holidays a bit more special.

"Really the whole point of the campaign was to really be able to donate to those in need, mostly those from the homeless. This is actually the No. 1 requested item by the homeless shelter, is socks. It's the one thing they need the most every single year and to just be able to give a little bit back is just amazing," said Chadwick French, the systems operations controller at UVA Health.
