LEXINGTON, Ky. (WBKO) -Suicide is the second leading cause of death for people age 10-34 in the state according to the University of Kentucky health care.

The university spreading awareness about suicide prevention through QPR training, a gatekeeper program that focuses on helping individuals at risk of committing suicide.

“When we have kids die, we don’t expect it. And suicide is a cause of death, which is very preventable in terms of people knowing the signs and getting kids to help,” said social work professor at UK Julie Cerel.

The purpose of the training is to teach individuals how to recognize and respond when someone shows signs of being suicidal.
