The rush on the roads begins Tuesday as people head to their holiday destinations.
AAA is projecting that across Connecticut, 864,000 people are expected to travel 50 miles or more for their holiday destinations and about 89% of them will be driving.

“The roads are going to be busy. And it's really the bulk of the afternoon into the early evening hours from every day starting on the 25th through the first. That is going to be the worst time,” said Tracy Noble, of AAA in Greater Hartford.
Noble said to avoid the midday traffic, it’s best to leave in the early morning hours or at night after 8 or 9 p.m. She said each year, the number of people going the distance for the holiday seems to increase.
