OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The Omaha Police Department is urging drivers to buckle up this holiday season by joining a “Make It Click” campaign.
In a social media post, OPD says it is cracking down on seatbelt usage as part of a national and statewide effort from Wednesday through Sunday.
According to OPD, the lack of seatbelt use continues to be a leading factor in fatal crashes in the state.
The post also included information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA):
The national seatbelt use rate reached 91% in 2024.
In 2023, 56% of people killed in nighttime vehicle crashes were not wearing a seatbelt.
Also in 2023, among passenger-vehicle occupants ages 18–34 who were killed in crashes, 60% were unbuckled.
This is a “high visibility enforcement campaign,”
