INDEPENDENCE, Iowa — A missing person was safely located after a coordinated search effort involving the Independence Fire Department, Independence Police Department, and the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday morning.
The search began around 1:35 a.m., with Buchanan County Dispatch providing real-time GPS updates from the individual's phone. Foggy conditions and the subject's movement complicated the search.
After nearly three hours, responders found the person's vehicle in a ditch. The individual was inside and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries by AMR Ambulance.
