State safety officials announced the “Tennessee Safe Thanksgiving Travel Challenge Initiative,” a statewide traffic enforcement push set for Wednesday, Nov. 26, and Sunday, Nov. 30.
Commissioner Jeff Long, THP Colonel Matt Perry, and law enforcement partners say drivers can expect increased patrols, troopers stationed every 20 miles on interstates, and added enforcement on secondary roads. All administrative THP members have been ordered onto patrol.
In 2024, there were eight fatal crashes resulting in eight deaths during the Thanksgiving travel period. One crash involved alcohol, and two victims were not wearing seatbelts. Officials say that amounted to one fatality every 13 hours and 30 minutes.
