TRAVERSE CITY — A 51-year-old man from Benzie County has been charged following an attempted abduction at a Meijer gas station on US-31 in Traverse City.

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday when a 21-year-old woman from Florida was assaulted at the gas station.

The woman managed to escape with the help of bystanders, and Scott Gensler was arrested later that morning near Chums Corners.

Gensler has been charged with kidnapping and has no prior criminal record. He is being held on a $500,000 cash surety bond.

Michigan State Police are leading the investigation and have requested any cell phone footage of the incident from witnesses.
