FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WBAY) - On Tuesday, District Attorney Eric J. Toney announced 48-year-old Lataye D. Smith from Chicago was sentenced to 58 years of initial confinement and 38 years of extended supervision.

A jury previously convicted Smith of three domestic violence convictions with a dangerous weapon for attempted homicide, mayhem, and battery.

The defendant attempted to slit the throat and wrist of the victim with a box cutter while in a car.

The victim bravely fought the defendant off and escaped to safety from the car.
