A wooden urn containing what is believed to be cremated human remains was dropped off at a West Lincoln thrift shop and has police trying to find the rightful owner.

On Monday Niagara Regional Police were called to West Lincoln Community Care Thrift Store. Police said the sealed wooden urn was dropped off at a donation bay sometime on Nov. 19 or 20.

Police said it’s not yet known for certain if the remains belong to a human or an animal.

The urn has a six-digit number on the bottom of the lid — 528395 — which is believed to be an identification number. A police-supplied photo of the urn with a ruler shows it is roughly 20 cm long.

Police are asking for help to identify who donated the urn, so they can return it to its rightful owner.
