A job for life is a thing of the past, with a recent study revealing that the average worker expects to go through seven jobs before they retire. A better salary, relocation, career progression and the desire for new challenges are some of the best-known reasons for a career move , but the prospect of swapping the familiar for the new can feel daunting. This is particularly acute right now, with rising unemployment, a lack of confidence in the UK job market and employers reluctant to hire in an uncertain economy.
