Two days after it began, the fire at a Hong Kong high rise has finally been brought under control. But the full scale of this tragedy is only now coming into view. The investigation into this disaster is only just beginning.
Authorities say 128 people have been killed in the blaze and there is still the possibility that more bodies could be found.
Police have alleged that the bamboo scaffolding and foam materials being used may have caused the fire to spread so quickly in all directions.
Hong Kong’s Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) has launched a criminal investigation – and they arrested two consultants in charge of the renovations today. The police have also taken three construction officials into custody, all on suspicion of manslaughter.
