The fencing is up, and the office is set for the arrival of 700 balsam fir trees that will find their way into Thunder Bay homes this Christmas. The annual Westfort Kiwanis tree sale begins Saturday at noon at the Canadian Lakehead Exhibition Grounds (CLE).
Kiwanis fundraising committee chairman Terry Ferguson said the trees are coming all the way from Nova Scotia for the third year in a row.
“They’re still having problems in southern Ontario with the gypsy moth, which is why we switched to Nova Scotia in the first place,” Ferguson said, adding they were quite worried because Nova Scotia experienced a drought this year.
“Well, in the last five weeks, it has been pouring rain in Nova Scotia and the grower said the trees haven’t been this beautiful in 20 years.”
