AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities have released the name of a detainee who died at a South Carolina jail on Saturday morning.
The Aiken County Sheriff's Office said a detention officer at the Aiken County jail was performing a routine check when the officer found an unresponsive detainee in a cell. Authorities said officers attempted to revive the detainee until medical crews arrived; however, the person ultimately died.
Coroner Darryl Ables said the coroner's office was called to the jail around 4 a.m. The inmate was identified as 37-year-old Kevin V. Rodriguez of Aiken. An autopsy is scheduled for the following week to officially determine Rodriguez's cause and manner of death.
