Snow created slick conditions on streets and highways Saturday afternoon, prompting a winter weather travel advisory for Allen County.

The hazardous conditions led to crashes on Interstates 469 and 69, Bernie Beier, who oversees emergency management for the county, said in an early afternoon news release.

"You must slow down on the highways today," he said. "Change lanes, enter/exit gradually and with caution."

Other travel tips included allowing extra space between vehicles, braking and accelerating gradually.

"Expect road conditions to deteriorate as the winter storm intensifies throughout the evening hours," Beier said.
