BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - Small business owners in downtown Biloxi used Shop Small Saturday to encourage shoppers to support locally-owned stores during the holiday season.

The nationwide initiative, held annually on the Saturday after Thanksgiving since 2010, spotlights local businesses and encourages consumers to spend holiday dollars in their communities.

Downtown Biloxi business owners said the day serves as more than a single shopping event. They rely on Shop Small Saturday to kick off the busiest season of the year and remind shoppers that local stores offer products unavailable at big-box retailers.

“Most of these small boutiques and vintage shops, we personally pick everything in our stores and everything is curated and placed beautifully in our stores,” said Brandy Waltman of Vint
