ORANGETOWN – Volunteer firefighters from the Piermont Fire Department sprang into action on Thanksgiving after a report of a person jumping from the Tappan Zee Bridge was received shortly before midnight. The Piermont firefighters joined several other agencies in responding to the Hudson River to look for the person who reportedly leaped from the span. The Piermont Fire Department responded with eight divers and three surface personnel on their boat to search the area. Following a conversation with the command center, the Piermont FD vessel deployed its specialized sidescan sonar system and initiated a grid search south of the bridge based upon tidal conditions.
