Rail passengers have faced “major disruption” on the East Coast Main Line following a signalling fault at Leeds.
Network Rail said a “defective cable caused a signalling failure affecting several platforms at Leeds station” at around 10.50am on Sunday, with engineers restoring power by 1.20pm.
London North Eastern Railway (LNER) posted on X on Sunday morning: “We are experiencing major disruption across the LNER route due to a person being hit by a train between Edinburgh and Berwick-upon-Tweed, and a fault with the signalling system at Leeds.”
In an update at 1.54pm on Sunday, the train operating company said signalling had been restored at Leeds and lines were open between Edinburgh and Berwick-upon-Tweed.
