The city of Chicago is no stranger to strange weather events and unique phenomena, but this weekend’s snowstorm added to that lore.

The powerful storm dumped seven or more inches of snow across the entire Chicago area, snarling traffic, leading to hundreds of crashes and causing hundreds of flight cancellations at both Chicago airports.

It was at one of those airports that Chicago made a new entry in the record books, according to data from the National Weather Service.

From the time the snow began to fall on Saturday morning to the end of the day, Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport measured 8.4 inches of snowfall, with more than 500 flights canceled at the airport amid the wintry weather.
