A pedestrian was struck and killed by a freight train in suburban Downers Grove Sunday morning.
According to Downers Grove police, officers were called to the train tracks near Washington Street at approximately 12:45 a.m. Sunday for reports of a person that had been struck by a train.
According to a preliminary investigation, the person was seen on foot south of the railroad crossing. The person attempted to walk north across the tracks and was struck by a westbound freight train.
Police said the crossing gates and lights were activated at Washington Street at the time of the collision.
That individual was pronounced dead on the scene. Police have not yet released the person’s identity.
Downers Grove police, Metra police and BNSF police are all investigating the incident. Anyone with
