LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - On December 1, volunteers worked to conduct free HIV testing, education and linkage to care, all in an effort to commemorate World AIDS Day.
According to the World Health Organization , HIV remains a major global public health concern. They said transmission is ongoing in all countries, globally.
In Louisville, Telly Harris, the Lead Outreach Coordinator for Volunteers of America Health Program, said the city has the highest prevalence of people diagnosed or living with HIV in the state of Kentucky.
The World Health Organization says Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus that attacks the body’s immune system. Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome or AIDS is the most advanced stage of infection.
