WESTERN Ky. (KFVS) - Crews with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 1 pre-treated interstates, parkways and four-lane highways on Monday afternoon, December 1 ahead of a wintry mix later in the evening.
A winter weather advisory was issued for most counties in District 1, with possible freezing rain, sleet and maybe snow Monday night into early Tuesday. Check your First Alert Forecast here.
According to KYTC, pre-treating with brine gives highway crews a head start with snow and ice. Once sprayed, brine dries to a fine salt powder that is activated by early falling precipitation and helps prevent snow and ice from sticking to the pavement.
Crews will continue to monitor weather conditions overnight.
Drivers are advised to slow down and use caution overnight and into early Tue
