ALCOA, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Alcoa Police Department is warning residents to remain vigilant was reports of scams are on the rise.

APD said the scams frequently involve suspects impersonating law enforcement officers, government officials or financial institutions via phone call, text message, email or social media.

“A common tactic involves pressuring victims to send payment through Bitcoin, Apple gift cards, other branded gift cards, or other irreversible forms of payment,” APD said. “Scammers often create a sense of urgency or fear to convince individuals that immediate payment is required.”
