POWELL, Tenn. (WVLT) - The U.S. Department of Transportation found nearly half of the 16,000 truck driving programs nationwide are not following requirements, putting their certification at risk.
Nearly 3,000 schools could have their accreditation revoked if they don’t fix their training requirements in the next 30 days. More than 4,000 others are getting a warning.
The U.S. Department of Transportation has not shared a list of which schools are on the warning or revocation lists.
Barry Henson owns Tennessee Truck Driving School in Powell. He said proper training is essential for safety.
“There’s no shortcut to training truck drivers. They’re driving down the road with all our families, you know, hauling 80,000 pounds. There’s no shortcut to that,” Henson said.
