ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Millions of packages move through the U.S. Postal Service’s Hapeville facility every day during the holiday season.
“This is our Super Bowl, this is our busiest time of year,” said Strategic Communications Specialist Tiffany Rowland.
The processing center is using a new sorting machine to keep up with demand.
The Hapeville facility is where packages come in to be sorted for neighborhoods across metro Atlanta.
Their new Single Induction Package Sorter can handle more than 50,000 packages every day, or 4,500 packages every hour.
Rowland says the sorter sorts each package by ZIP code.
“The truck will pick them up after they’re sorted and drop them off at each post office,” said Rowland.
