HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Downed utility poles and lines on the road created a traffic mess on Likelike Highway Tuesday morning.
Hawaiian Electric says the poles came down after lines came into contact with trees.
A power outage affecting 769 homes and businesses in Kalihi, Kalihi Valley, Kamehameha Heights, Liliha, and Palama was reported at 2:14 a.m.
The Kaneohe-bound lanes were closed at approximately 2:34 a.m. between North School Street and the Wilson Tunnel to allow crews to remove and reset poles and restore service in the area.
The lanes were reopened for the afternoon rush hour, but one lane will close again at 7 p.m. so crews can finish the job.
Approximately 10 customers are expected to remain out of power until midnight.
