Construction has been completed on two Highway 401 bridges in Waterloo Region, laying the groundwork for expansion of the highway from six to 10 lanes.
The province announced Wednesday that the King Street overpass and Homer Watson Boulevard bridge are now complete. The projects are part of a $30-billion plan to expand and repair highways, roads and bridges across Ontario.
Next up is reconstruction of the Frederick Street bridge as part of the plan to build a new Highway 7 between Kitchener and Guelph.
“Investments like the replacement of the Grand River bridges on Highway 401 and the ongoing work to build a new Highway 7 between Kitchener and Guelph are investments for residents and businesses in Kitchener and our broader region,” said Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic in a statement.
