PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. – Trustees in Peoria Heights have given their approval to a project that will redesign Prospect Road.
The project will stretch from Tower Park to War Memorial Drive. The main goals of the project will narrow the road from five lanes to three, with a center turn option in the downtown area. Sidewalk improvements include making them ADA compliant, and widening them for pedestrians and al fresco dining.
The project is expected to cost around $20 million, with Mayor Matt Wigginton telling 25 News that no tax increases are planned for the project.
“Being able to have both Congressman LaHood, as well as Congressman Sorensen, really backing this project, makes it really something that’s affordable for a village of our size,” Wigginton said.
