EAST PEORIA, Ill. – An emergency alert system for the city of East Peoria has been shut down after a security breach.
The city says an organized cybercriminal group recently breached the OnSolve CodeRED system. The system alerted residents who signed up about events such as boil advisories, road conditions and closures, community events, and more.
The city says potential information that could have been breached includes names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, and passwords.
The city adds the platform was decommissioned immediately and is no longer available, with backup data used to create a new platform called CODERED by Crisis 24. Residents who had signed up as of March 31st were automatically transferred to the new system.
