Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse football has lost three-star defensive back Tyrell Grant Jr. to another ACC school on signing day.
Grant signed with Virginia Tech and new coach James Franklin, who pursued the longtime Syracuse commit late in the recruiting period.
Grant’s sudden change of mind comes two days after he said he was “locked in” with Syracuse after a recruiting visit to Virginia Tech.
A Virginia native, Grant is listed at 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds and is rated just outside the Top 30 players in Virginia by 247Sports.
At the time of his commitment to the Orange back in June, Syracuse was Grant’s only Power-Four scholarship offer.
But Franklin’s hiring jolted the Hokies into a potential destination for in-state prospects despite a rough year on the field.
