The impact of longtime city employees Alex Posada and Mark van de Kamp was recognized Tuesday by the city council ahead of their retirements, with council members saying they exemplified a “heart of service.”

Recreation and Parks Director Alex Posada received his official recognition for nearly 47 years of employment — he served as director of the parks department since 1993 and as interim city manager in 2023 and 2024.

Mayor Alice Patino read the recognition, which highlighted Posada's accomplishments and contributions including the creation of the People for Leisure and Youth non-profit, leading the campaign that garnered the City’s All-America City designation in 1998, as well as the creation of the Mayor’s Youth Task Force in 2017.
