At 11:25 a.m. on Thursday, the National Weather Service released a snow squall warning in effect until 12:15 p.m. for Fulton, Montgomery, Schenectady and Schoharie counties.

"At 11:24 a.m., a dangerous snow squall was located over Canajoharie, moving east at 40 mph," says the weather service. "Travel will become difficult and potentially dangerous within minutes."

Locations impacted by the warning include Amsterdam, Canajoharie, Fonda, Glenville, Duanesburg, Fort Plain, St. Johnsville, Ephratah, Sharon Springs, Fort Johnson, Delanson, Ames, Rotterdam Junction, Tribes Hill, Central Bridge, Pattersonville-Rotterdam Junction, Glen, Carlisle, Sharon and Charleston. This includes the following highways: Interstate 88 near exit 23. Interstate 90 between exits 27 and 29.
