A Baltimore City Fire Department trainee is under active investigation after authorities say he made “concerning messages” while at the department’s training academy earlier this week, prompting a police response and the discovery of several registered weapons in his vehicle.

Baltimore police said officers were called around noon on Tuesday, Dec. 2, to the fire training academy in the 6700 block of Pulaski Highway after staff reported the trainee’s comments. A police spokeswoman declined to specify the nature of the messages or whether they involved any direct threats.

The trainee, whose name has not been released, was taken to a hospital for evaluation. Police said that during the investigation, they found several weapons inside his car, but that all were legally registered to him.
