The Pittsburgh Steelers play on a grass surface at Acrisure Stadium , but it will have to meet the new stricter regulations set out by the NFL and NFLPA next year.
The NFLPA has long tried to have better maintained fields across the league, and after a struggle, it seems they have secured those.
The union dislikes artificial turf, as they have cited multiple studies that show those fields have a higher rate of torn Achilles, ACL tears, concussions, and even minor injuries.
As a result, on Thursday, the league and NFLPA came to an agreement that requires NFL teams to obtain playing surfaces from an approved list of providers selected by the NFLPA and NFL.
It models itself after the league’s protocols for helmets, which have to meet upgraded safety requirements over the years.
