A Connecticut teenager has been arrested after authorities in Boston said he set a police cruiser on fire during a chaotic street takeover.
David Antonio Moran-Chavez, 19, of Norwalk, was arrested on Thursday, Dec. 4, on a fugitive-from-justice warrant in connection with the alleged arson, authorities said. He's being held on a $500,000 bond and faces additional charges in Massachusetts.
Boston Police said officers responded to a takeover on Oct. 5 at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Tremont Street. They tried to clear the crowd, but people refused to leave.
Boston police reported that people threw fireworks. Others jumped on police vehicles and hit the windows. Detectives said “one of the fireworks thrown caused one of the Boston Police Department vehicles to ignite and eventually become fully engulfed in flames.”
Boston investigators said they identified Moran-Chavez as a suspect and worked with Norwalk police for weeks leading up to the arrest.
Norwalk police searched his Fairfield Avenue home and found several items that they say connect him to the car fire, authorities said.
Moran-Chavez will be charged with conspiracy, disturbing the peace, burning of a motor vehicle, and fireworks violations once he's returned to Massachusetts, Norwalk police said.
