Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard delivered an emotional message Friday night upon the departure of head football coach Matt Campbell.

Campbell, who spent was ISU’s head coach from 2016 to 2025, will become the next Penn State football coach.

Pollard has been AD at Iowa State for 21 years, the duration of Campbell’s time in Ames, Iowa.

Speaking to reporters Friday night, Pollard confirmed the departure and spoke through tears about Campbell’s exit.

“I get it. I’ve done this long enough that, these jobs are hard. We make sacrifices that fans will never understand. We do,” Pollard said in a video posted to X by KCCI TV’s Shannon Ehrhardt
